Sunningdale Public School is located in North Oakville. The school was built in 1960 with additions in 1970 and 1989.

Sunningdale is a dual-track school, providing either a 50% Early French Immersion program or a regular English program to about 600 students. The English Program is offered to students in the school's “home patch” while the French Immersion program draws its population from North Oakville communities bounded by Hwy. 5 in the north, Ninth Line in the east, the Sixteen Mile Creek in the west and the Queen Elizabeth Way in the south.

The school is widely used by various community groups, including a YMCA after-school daycare program, Beavers, Brownies, Pathfinders and community recreational groups. The school grounds adjoin the Municipal Oxford Park and together these facilities are used extensively for sports activities in the spring and summer.

Sunningdale prides itself on being a community school and has a large number of parent volunteers who are actively involved in most school related activities, including committees, extra-curricular programs and special events. There is a very active School Council that works closely with school administration and staff to promote learning at the school.

School Academic priorities during the last few years have included a focus on the implementation of Curriculum (Early Literacy, Information Technology, the Ontario Curriculum 1 to 8), Assessment and Evaluation, Problem Based Learning (Technology in Education, School Grounds Naturalization Project, Social Skills Program). Staff development and parent education are important to the realization of these goals.

School initiatives include the School Naturalization Project and the Social Skills Program. Sunningdale is one of 40 schools in Ontario which have embarked on a 10 year School Grounds Naturalization Project in conjunction with the Evergreen Foundation and Environment Canada's community funding program Action 21. The purpose of the project is to create a more attractive and comfortable place for the students to play, learn and gain a greater appreciation for nature and wildlife. Elements of the school curriculum will be enriched by providing the students with opportunities for experiential problem based learning. There is also an emphasis on the development of social skills. In the past the school was involved in the Tri-ministry Social Skills Program. Presently all our students receive the “Second Step” social skills program.
